Bulgarian Art Exhibition in Switzerland

The Media Announcement

The Foundation for Humanitarian Aid to Bulgaria in co-operation with the Town Council of Lucerne organise a major exhibition of contemporary Bulgarian art in Lucerne from April 11 through April 24, 1995.

The Organizing Committee's aim is to give visitors an overview of the leading trends and artists in Bulgaria.

The proceeds of the exhibition will partly go to the - unfortunately still many - needed artists in Bulgaria.

The exhibition is considered by experts as one of the major Bulgarian art events in Europe since the 1989 political changes.

The participating 31 artists will show a total of 140 works of art, paintings, sculptures and prints. Part of the works shown will be available on loan from various collectors, such as the famous Schreiher Collection (Germany).

Most of the artists are internationally renowned and have been honoured with international awards. A list of participants is included in this document.

The exhibition's curator is Dimitar G. Dimitroff, an internationally well reputed expert on Bulgarian art.

The exhibition will be opened by Lucerne's Mayor Franz Kurzmeyer and the Bulgarian Ambassador to Switzerland Dr. Elena Kircheva. A number of leading persons related to Bulgaria and Bulgarian Arts will address the audience during the opening ceremony.

The vernissage will be musically shaped by the world-wide famous kaval-flute player Theodosi Spassoff and his percussion companion Boris Dinev. They will present a unique mixture of jazz and Bulgarian folk music.

The exhibiton will be accompanied by a coloured catalogue that will be available by early March. If you would like to receive a copy of the catalogue, please communicate this to Gerry van der Sluys, Auwiesenstr. 32, CH-9030 Abtwii, Tel. (41)71315328, F ax (41) 71315318

The Risovi Sisters

The following text is a personal tribute to the activities of Rizovi sisters. They don't know anything about it..

Sanja - Alexandrina Stocker-Risova and Boji - Bojidara van der Slujis-Risova are two nice ladies - members of a family definitely devoted to the creation of more and more links between Bulgaria and the rest of the world. An eminent member of this family is Mr. Augustin Pejchinov - should I go on to convince you?

The Foundation of Humanitarian Aid to Bulgaria was founded by Sanja and Boji during that difficult 1990. Their aid to the needed people in Bulgaria can be evaluated - quantitatively - by more than 40 TIR-vehicles of various goods directed to the country. These were not always just large volumes of 'conventional' food, dress and medical goods. Risovi succeeded to organize some rather complicated tasks, like the provision of complete medical equipment to some needed key-points. Their activity is not restric ted to the classical humanitarian sphere: the large Lucern exhibition demonstrates their ability to organise top-level Bulgarian culture events in Europe.
