According to the union of the currency depositors and the ministry of
finance, there are 36 citizens of the Republic of Macedonia who have
deposits of more than 1 mln. German marks (DEM). However, their savings are
blocked in Macedonian banks along with 813,000 other deposits.
The total amount of the blocked deposits is DEM 1,300. According to the
same sources, there are around DEM 2 bln. more in the hands of the public.
